LASIK Surgery
WELLSPIRE LASIK Surgery
What is LASIK surgery?
One of the most popular vision correction procedures is LASIK surgery. This minimally invasive procedure uses a laser to reshape the cornea in order to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
Is LASIK for everyone?
While LASIK is fairly commonplace, it’s not a viable option for every eye patient. A few requirements need to be met in order to be a good candidate for the procedure.
- You must be over 18
- You are in good overall health
- You do not have dry eye
- Your prescription falls within acceptable limits
- Your cornea must be thick enough
LASIK is also more effective if your visual prescription is stable. The less dramatic your prescription changes, the more effective the procedure will be.
How is LASIK performed?
Using a small laser, your Wellspire ophthalmologist uses a laser to reshape the cornea. This allows access to the cornea, the clear, dome-shaped tissue at the front of your eye, so that it can be reshaped. By correcting the refraction of light to the back of the eye, patients are able to see clearly without the aid of glasses or contact lenses.
What is the recovery time following LASIK surgery?
Patients who are eligible for LASIK surgery can expect a complete and full recovery in three to six months. Eyesight may be blurry within 24 hours of the procedure; however, you can resume comfortable, normal activity in just a couple of days.
