General surgeons perform a variety of procedures involving other abdominal organs such as the abdominal lymph nodes, large and small intestine, liver, spleen, and stomach. Common surgeries include biopsies, such as a liver biopsy, and removal of part or all of an organ, such as a splenectomy. Other conditions frequently treated with abdominal surgery include diverticulitis and bowel obstruction, both of which can occur in either the large or small intestine.
